Happy Friday 6H!
Harlow, Clementine and I completed an experiment to demonstrate how soap can break down the Corona Virus. You only need a little milk, food coloring and a dash of dish soap! Viruses can be active outside the body for hours, even days. Disinfectants, liquids, wipes, gels and creams containing alcohol are all useful at getting rid of them, but they are not quite as good as normal soap and water. So why does soap work so well on the coronavirus? The virus has a weak link called it's lipid or fatty bilayer. Just like it attacks the fat in the milk, soap attacks the virus's fat membrane and the virus falls apart like a house of cards and dies. The soap not only loosens the “glue” between the virus and the skin but also the molecules that hold the virus together!
Have a great weekend and be safe,
Mr. Hudson
