Middle School Grading System for Trimester 3

Dear Middle School Guardians & Students,

For trimester 3, the middle school will enact a Pass/Fail grading system. The decision to enact a Pass/Fail grade, is based on the extreme circumstances we find ourselves in. Passing marks will constitute confirmation that students have satisfactorily completed the necessary course work put forth by the school during the stated marking period.

On the trimester 3 report card, grades will be communicated as follows:

Pass+:  Students who attain this rating will pass the content area with distinction.  This rating recognizes students therefore worked and/or engaged in the learning process at a very high academic level.

Pass:  Recognizes students who routinely and/or satisfactorily engaged in the learning process by attending and participating in live meetings, completing and submitting assignments to the best of their abilities while or while not facing hardships.

Fail: Indicates students who did not declare significant hardships, engage in the learning process via email, phone or virtual-conference, complete and/or turn in enough assignments to allow for meaningful feedback or evaluation.

As customary, students will be evaluated on a case by case basis, but engagement via phone, email, text and work submissions will be used to assess their overall performance during the trimester.

For this reason, parents are encouraged to ensure that students are daily engaged in the learning process.  Approximately 3-4 hours a day should be set aside for students to engage in the lessons and/or tasks placed on the teachers web-pages. Appointments should be set with teachers or instructional assistants for help and daily live sessions should be attended. Finally, families facing hardships should reach out to the school to declare this fact so that individualized assistance or exceptions can be made.

Kind regards,
