Opened in September 2002 offering grades K-3, New Beginnings Family Academy (“NBFA”) offers active and engaging learning experiences from Pre-K through 6th grade. NBFA is a tuition-free, public charter school proudly distinguished by:

The NBFA Literacy Tutor must be committed to and advocate for NBFA’s mission to provide students a meaningful, high quality education through experience-based learning that helps develop essential social, emotional and critical-thinking skills. The Literacy Tutor will participate in intervention groups in reading.

Classification: Full-time/Salaried/Exempt/185 days

Principal Accountabilities:
1. Administer universal/diagnostic assessments and share results with administrators and teachers
2. Collaborate with administrators, teachers and reading specialists in order to assist their a) review of school-wide data to identify students’ strengths and/or areas of need and b) development of intervention plans and instructional groupings
3. Participate in SRBI Team meetings as may be requested by administrators to review progress monitoring data to assist the decision-making process regarding tiered support
4. Maintain and collect data/current records of students’ performance in order to keep administrators, teachers and parents abreast of students’ progress

Other Responsibilities:
1. The Literacy Tutor may be assigned to cover a class, in the temporary/short-term absence of the classroom teacher, to the extent permitted by law
2. May assume other functions as delegated by the building Principal/Director or designee, to the extent permitted by law

Requirements
The Literacy Tutor must possess the following:
1. Experience with Scientific Research-Based interventions (SRBI) and progress monitoring
2. Experience with the LLI/Fundations programs and such assessments as Running Records and the DRA 2
3. Willingness to participate in relevant professional development in literacy instruction
4. Ability to support and motivate; be positive, trust-worthy and committed to promoting the school’s vision, mission and goals
5. Excellent collaboration, interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written

The following experiences/qualifications are preferred:
1. An active elementary teaching certificate
2. Experience teaching reading to elementary aged students
