Health Office & Social Services
To make sure students have all the support they need to enjoy their time at school, our school nurse and social workers are available to provide a range of services throughout the day. Please be advised that all medication, prescription or otherwise, must be channeled through the nurse.
Health Education
Each year, the nurse collaborates with teachers to come up with a list of topics that are age appropriate and delivers presentation to students regarding their health, wellness and prevention.
Families also receive monthly newsletters from the health office with articles, helpful resources and tips.
Social Workers
Children often face adverse or unstable life circumstances that affect
their role as students. Our dedicated social workers are here to offer support to students with unmet physical and emotional needs that may interfere with their ability to learn and adjust in school.
Services for Students
- Developing intervention strategies to increase academic success.
- Assisting with conflict resolution and anger management.
- Helping the child develop appropriate social interaction skills.
- Assisting the child in understanding and accepting self and others.
- Providing crisis intervention

- Alleviating family stress to enable the child to function more effectively in school and in their community.
- Assisting parents to access programs available to students with special needs.
- Assisting parents in accessing and utilizing school and community resources.
- Working with parents to facilitate their support in their children's school adjustment.
Health Assessments and Immunizations
To determine the health status of students, facilitate the removal of disabilities to learning and find out whether some special adaptation of the school program may be necessary, the Board of Directors requires that students have health assessments.
The Board adheres to state laws and regulations that pertain to school immunizations and health assessments. It is the policy of the Board to ensure that all enrolled students are adequately immunized against communicable diseases. The Board may deny continued attendance in school to any student who fails to obtain the health assessments required under C.G.S. 10-206, as may be periodically amended.
Parents wishing their children exempted or excused from health assessments must request such exemption to the CEO in writing. This request must be signed by the parent/guardian. All medical/health information and records are strictly confidential.
The state of Connecticut Department of Public Health requires students entering Kindergarten, 6th grade, and 10th grade to have full health assessments and immunization requirements met prior to entering these grades. In addition, it is required that students entering 7th grade must have the Tdap vaccine administered prior to the start of the school year, if not already done during their 6th grade physical.
