What is Friends of NBFA? Friends of New Beginnings Family Academy is the support organization and steward of charitable funds for New Beginnings Family Academy. A 501(c)3, Friends of NBFA assists New Beginnings Family Academy as it provides academic excellence within a safe, well-structured and nurturing environment by:

• raising resources to bridge the per pupil funding gap;
• supporting specific programs and positions critical to student success;
• providing appropriate accountability measures;
• advocating for favorable charter school legislation;
• sharing news and information with the public; and
• coordinating parent and volunteer services.

In May 2005, Friends of NBFA purchased and began transforming a century-old building into a beautiful "urban campus" for New Beginnings Family Academy. Today, the refurbished facility offers 51,000-sq. ft. of instructional space, visitor parking and a lot on which to build a multi-purpose room and playground. The building features a Science Lab and three science classrooms; Library and Media Center with computer stations; an additional second-floor computer lab; and a fully equipped commercial kitchen.

Support NBFA. As a public charter school, New Beginnings Family Academy receives operating funds of $9,300 per pupil from the State Department of Education. This amounts to roughly 25 percent less, on average, than traditional urban public school districts in Connecticut.

In addition to funds for general operating support of New Beginnings Family Academy, the school seeks help for specific programs -- Extended Day, Summer Academy, Library and Media Services – that directly impact student academic performance.
