Internationally Acclaimed Children’s Book Author & Illustrator At NBFA

Weston resident and children’s author/illustrator Hans Wilhelm delighted about 40 public charter school students Thursday at New Beginnings Family Academy in Bridgeport.

One of America’s foremost authors and illustrators of children’s books, Wilhelm captured the imagination of enthusiastic third-graders by inviting them to create their own impromptu story while he illustrated. With just a little prodding, students conjured up Snowball, a boy bunny, and Angel, a squeaky rat, who fell upside down in a deep crevice with no apparent way to escape. Suddenly, a low-flying elephant showed up and transformed his trunk into a stairwell, providing Snowball and Angel an exit out of the hole.

“Never go for your first idea because behind every good idea is an even better one,” Wilhelm encouraged the students. “I’m looking forward to seeing your books in the bookstore one day.”

The author of more than 200 books and with more than 35 million in print, Mr. Wilhelm’s books have won numerous international awards and prizes. Many of his books have been translated into more than 20 languages and have become animated television shows outside the United States.
