A Familiar Face Becomes NBFA's New Principal

The Board of Directors of New Beginnings Family Academy has named Mr. Paul Whyte as its permanent new principal, effective immediately. A familiar face around the school, Mr. Whyte has worked as Development Director for Friends of NBFA, the school’s support organization and fundraising arm, for the past four years. In that capacity, Mr. Whyte has secured over $1 million in grants, including a gift from the state Bond Commission to help pay for renovations to the Garden Street building. He has also helped produce large events to raise funds for the annual operating budget.
As the school’s instructional and cultural leader, Mr. Whyte will lead the NBFA team in its mission to ensure that every student meets ambitious academic goals while becoming responsible, upstanding citizens.
“I’m looking forward to the opportunity and challenge of working with NBFA’s dedicated staff, students and parents toward our shared mission to provide the best education possible to all 360 students,” said Mr. Whyte, who taught math, technology and global studies to ninth through 11th graders for three years and ran two alternative education programs for seven years in New York City. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Yale University and a Master of Education in administration, planning and social policy from Harvard University.
The search for a principal yielded a small, but highly qualified pool of candidates from across the country. Mr. Whyte’s demonstrated commitment to the entire New Beginnings community won him the unanimous support of the Search Committee comprised of board members, parents and a teacher.
“Paul Whyte is intelligent, has superb education credentials, exudes a quiet dignity, knows the school, is a great role model for our students, especially the boys, and is liked and respected by the parents,” said Richard Bentley, chairman of NBFA’s Board of Education. “He is very likely to be happy in this role for a long time and we are very lucky to have him."
