NBFA Goes The Extra Mile
A 2-mile walk/run event to benefit New Beginnings Family Academy When the going gets tough, family sticks together. That's exactly what members of the New Beginnings Family Academy community did earlier this year when faced with a deficit in this year's operating budget. For the first time ever, parents were asked to participate in a grassroots campaign to help raise money for their children's public charter school. So far, $9,600 in gifts have been raised – more than half of the fundraising goal of $18,400! Now, with just 10 weeks left in the school year, it’s time to cross the finish line. “NBFA Goes the Extra Mile,” a May 1 walk/run at Seaside Park in Bridgeport, will help do just that. The community event is designed to: 1. promote health/wellness for NBFA students and families; 2. raise vital funds for NBFA’s operating costs; and 3. unite the school community. An award’s ceremony will immediately follow the walk/run. Every member of the NBFA community – students, parents/guardians, grandparents and friends – is urged to participate in this family fun event to benefit the school. The general public is also invited to participate. Here’s how it works: Step 1: Fill out the enclosed Registration Form. Only one registration form is required per “family.” Family may include aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and neighbors. Sorry, no dogs allowed in the park. o Write down the name, age and t-shirt size of everyone in your “family” who will participate. o Check the appropriate box to let us know if each individual will walk or run the two miles. o Return the completed registration form to school no later than Wednesday, April 21 so that t-shirts may be ordered for everyone. You must be registered to receive a t-shirt. o In the event that there is not enough room on one registration form for all your family members, do not hesitate to contact the Friends of NBFA office for another. Step 2: Secure Sponsors. Every person over age 5 who plans to participate must secure sponsors. The first $25 in sponsor donations covers registration and t-shirt fees. Anything after that directly benefits the school, so the more sponsors signed, the more money raised for NBFA! o Sponsors may contribute by cash, check or money order. No credit cards, please. o Checks should be made payable to “Friends of NBFA.” o Sponsor forms, along with all monies collected, must be turned into the Friends of NBFA office by Wednesday, April 28. o For more sponsor forms, contact the Friends of NBFA office at 203-610-6267. 109. Step 3: Show up on Saturday, May 1. Eat a hearty breakfast, lace up your sneakers and meet the rest of the NBFA community at the West Point of Seaside Park. o Onsite registration begins at 10:30 a.m. o All students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. No drop-offs. o Babies in strollers are welcome. “NBFA Goes the Extra Mile” is the last opportunity this academic year to reach the $18,400 fundraising goal. Plus, it’s going to be fun! If you would like to help NBFA cross the finish line, please register AND secure as many sponsors as possible for this worthwhile cause. For more information, contact Christina Rose at 203-610-6267.
