NBFA Honors CMT Scholars
(BRIDGEPORT - 11/17/2009) NBFA parents celebrated their children's academic success at a hearty breakfast for CMT scholars and their families. Students who achieved at least goal (level 4) or advanced (level 5) on all reading, math and writing sections of the 2009 Connecticut Mastery Test were invited to attend.
Examples of the progress NBFA students made on the CMT in 2009 compared to 2008 include:
- 80% of 4th graders performed at or above goal in writing on the 2009 test compared to 43.9% in 2008.
- 43.2% of 5th graders performed at or above goal in science on the 2009 exam versus just 11.6% the year before.
- 70% of 7th graders performed at or above goal in math in 2009 compared to 30.6% in 2008.
- 63.3% of 7th graders performed at or above goal in reading in 2009 compared to 27.8% the year before.
In 2007, NBFA posted some of the highest academic gains in the state including #1 for elementary school improvement; #1 for elementary school performance gains;
#1 for elementary African American scores; and #1 for middle school improvement.
In 2009, 5th grade ranked #1 among African American students who performed at or above goal.
In addition to the great food and fellowship, NBFA students also received congratulatory certificates at the CMT Scholars Breakfast.
